Comprehensvie Examination/Distance Learning Portfolio or Website

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this assignment is to increase the scholar's knowledge base by having them study various aspects of the career and technical (vocational) education profession, while publishing their findings in or portfolio or on a website. This assignment also leads toward comprehensive examination preparation.

INTRODUCTION

In order to be informed about the career and technical (vocational) education profession it is important for all masters student to look beyond their discipline of study. The following questions should challenge each scholar. Thereby, enhancing their experiences as professionals and learners. Further, each scholar will be required to have thorough understanding of this subject matter in a culminating comprehensive examination.

All Comprehensive Examination/Distance Learning Option scholars will be required to develop a portfolio or website that includes, in addition to the assignments denoted above, in the preparation for the comprehensive examination in replacement of the masters thesis a well researched, organized document addressing a series of questions. Review the portfolio guidelines for specific requirements and develop your portfolio or website around the following questions. A table of contents is required and scholars will be held to strict APA standards.

Write at minimum a five page paper on the nine (9) following questions with a minimum of five sources per topic. Each scholar will be required to conduct sound accurate research, and include all pertinent information as summarized above. A minimum of 5 sources will also be considered satisfactory and citations and references are required to be done in APA format.


Complete the following nine (9) questions below.


1. Discuss the use of standards and framework in Career and Technical (Vocational) education. Compare the use of standards in the K-12 system, community college and university and the reason why technically literacy standards should be included.
2. Compare the Career and Technical (Vocational) approach of two countries to that of California.
3. Provide an overview of the Service Area categorization of Career and Technical (Vocational) education programs. Compare this to one other form of Career and Technical (Vocational) education program clustering.
4. Examine how Career and Technical (Vocational) educators on a national and statewide level have and have not responded to the major challenges currently impacting K-12 educational system and community colleges. Be sure to include the impact of School-to-Career, Tech Prep, and Perkins.
5. Describe the seven fields of career and technical education as described on the national level. Also, include the Student Associations associated with each.
6. Describe the five major chapters of a thesis. Your description should also include the value and purpose for each chapter.
   
7. Why are School-to-Career programs important and what is their impact on providing qualified entry-level workers?
8. Discuss the difference between an issue and a problem; and provide a story that might address how you might handle a potential issue or problem in the work place.
9. Describe how you would conduct research on a related topic associated with Career and Technical Education.  Information related to APA, ERIC, journals both peer reviewed and other should be discussed.
