This EVOC 501 Course Evaluation is also posted on my Web site at:

1. How much experience have you had with online courses? -
Prior to taking EVOC 501 and 335 this quarter, I had taken only one online course at the local community college. That was six years ago, and the class was in HTML and beginning Web site design. We had only one face-to-face meeting on the first date, but the rest of the class was completely online. I was able to upload my HTML and Web site assignments to the college s Web server for the instructor to review, but at the time these were new concepts for me, and it required a lot of e-mailing of questions to the instructor in order to succeed in the class. However, I found online learning to be a great option for a working adult with a family. I wish more courses were offered as an online option.
2. How did EVOC 501 compare to other courses you have had? -
had already completed the Level I and Level II coursework required for my adult education teaching credential before taking EVOC 501. The Level I class was offered by the Metropolitan Education District, and although I enjoyed the interaction with other adult education teachers, it was not as well organized or comprehensive as EVOC 501. I definitely got a lot more out of the 501 class.
3. How would you describe the directions for course assignments? -
The directions for all course assignments were very clear and easy to understand.
4. How would you describe the examples of course assignments? -
I really liked the fact that most of the assignments included examples. Without them, I probably would have had to e-mail the instructor with questions on some of the assignments. The examples were very much appreciated.
5. How would you describe the organization of the E-TEXT? -
I felt it was extremely well organized and easy to follow. I liked having the link to distance learning dates, so I could easily check to see what was due each week. I also liked the fact that all assignments were in the e-text, so I could work on them ahead of schedule when I was able.
6. How would you describe feedback provided by the instructor? -
The instructor always e-mailed back in a timely manner, providing positive feedback on every assignment.
7. What did you like best about the online EVOC 501 course? -
I liked the fact that everything that was being taught was modeled in this course. I also liked the fact that I was able to work on assignments well ahead of the due dates, which was helpful if I knew I had a busy week coming up.
8. Which of the assignment(s) did you find to be of most value? -
I found the FA9 Related Studies assignment to be of most value, because it made me aware of skill areas I could develop to become a better teacher, and it provided a lot of leads for Web sites and other resources for developing these skills. I also found WR3 on course and unit plans to be of considerable value, because I now understand clearly what each of the five course related documents is and why it is important. It clarified for me that a lesson plan should be based on a single student performance objective, indicating what students should be able to do in terms that can be measured.
9. Which of the assignment(s) did you find to be of least value? -
I found all the assignments to be of value, but if I had to pick one that was my least favorite, I think it would be the FA7 Critical Vocabulary. I realize how important it is to be able to use course-related vocabulary correctly, I just felt the assignment was a little too long, and could have been just as effective with three of the four types of critical vocabulary included in the assignment: Computer Terminology, Educational Terminology, and Guiding Principles. Looking up the names of important people was very time-consuming, and I felt it was of less value than understanding the terms in the other three areas. However, one thing I really liked about this assignment was the fact that links to the definitions of most of the critical vocabulary terms were provided throughout the e-text.
10. What is your overall impression of the value of EVOC 501? -
This was an extremely comprehensive course which provides scholars with valuable information. I plan to apply all of the concepts and ideas in my own teaching. Thank you for making it such a gr
